About iGCSE Business Studies

iGCSE Business Studies provides students with an understanding of how businesses are organised, financed and managed within a global context. The Cambridge International syllabus covers business activity, marketing, operations, finance, human resources and the external environment, using examples from businesses of different sizes in both developed and developing economies.

The qualification is assessed through written examination papers featuring short-answer questions, data response and structured essays. There is no coursework element. Students learn to analyse business decisions, evaluate strategies and apply theoretical concepts to realistic business scenarios presented in case study format.

Studying iGCSE Business Studies develops commercial awareness, analytical thinking and evaluative skills. It is excellent preparation for International A-Level Business Studies and provides a foundation for further study in business, management, marketing and entrepreneurship at university.

Study Tips for Business Studies

  • Learn key business formulas (profit, revenue, break-even, market share) and practice using them with real numbers. Calculation questions appear regularly in iGCSE Business papers.
  • For each business concept, prepare an example from a real company that you can reference in exam answers. Specific examples demonstrate applied understanding and earn higher marks.
  • Create mind maps linking different functional areas of business (marketing, finance, HR, operations) to show how decisions in one area affect others.
  • Practice case study analysis by reading the case material carefully, identifying the key issues and applying relevant business theory to recommend solutions.

Exam Tips for iGCSE Business Studies

  • In evaluation questions, always consider the context of the business described in the case study. A strategy that works for a large multinational may not suit a small start-up, and examiners reward answers that demonstrate awareness of context.
  • Show your working in calculation questions and state the formula you are using. Even if the final number is wrong, you can earn method marks.
  • Avoid describing business concepts in isolation. Always link your knowledge to the specific question or scenario presented.
