About iGCSE Combined Science
iGCSE Combined Science (also known as Co-ordinated Sciences) allows students to study biology, chemistry and physics within a single qualification. Offered by Cambridge International, it is designed for students who want a broad scientific education without taking three separate science iGCSEs.
The qualification is assessed through written papers covering all three science disciplines. Students take a combination of multiple-choice, structured and practical-based written questions. The Core/Extended structure allows the course to be accessible to all ability levels while still challenging the most able students. Combined Science typically results in a single or double award grade.
This qualification is ideal for students who enjoy science but intend to specialise in non-science subjects at A-Level. It provides a solid foundation in scientific literacy, experimental skills and analytical thinking, and is accepted by universities worldwide as evidence of broad scientific competence.

Study Tips for Combined Science
- ✓ Create a revision timetable that allocates equal time to biology, chemistry and physics sections. Students often neglect their weakest science, which drags down the overall grade.
- ✓ Use colour-coded notes to separate the three disciplines, making it easier to organise your revision and quickly locate key information.
- ✓ Focus on the connections between the three sciences - for example, how energy transfer links physics (thermal energy), chemistry (energetics) and biology (respiration).
Exam Tips for iGCSE Combined Science
- ✓ In the exam, identify which science discipline each question relates to before answering, and use the correct specialist vocabulary for that discipline.
- ✓ Manage your time carefully across the paper. Combined Science papers cover a lot of content, so do not spend too long on any single question.
- ✓ For calculation questions, always show your working and include units. The mark scheme awards method marks across all three science areas.
